Dr.Suchatvee Suwansawat, Chairman of World Tunnel Congress 2012 (WTC) together with committees of Thailand Underground and Tunnelling Group (TUTG) launches the Facebook/Tunnelthailand and Twitter/TunnelThailand, the on-line community for tunnel societies and interested chatters. The objective is to provide news and viewpoints about tunnel technology and underground space use to enhance the people’s quality of life, economic stability, to secure the city and their habitants. Enjoy games and be updated with progress and movements of World Tunnel Congress 2012 to be hosted by Thailand on 18-23 May 2012.
Underground space offers potential solution to a wide range of problems related to demand for infrastructures including transportation, energy, drainage and underground facilities for buildings and other structures. Underground space construction and tunnelling technology is important for sustainable development for developing countries. We can see the dramatic growth of tunneling and underground construction in past 20 years in Asia and all over the world. We will see more countries including ASEAN increasingly aware of the social and environmental benefits of underground space utilization in the 21st Century.
