BuildTechAsia 2011 to showcase technology solutions aimed at raising productivity

Inaugural trade fair to feature the latest building technologies and construction IT concepts

Asia is estimated to account for around US$750 billion of infrastructure investment per year from 2010 to 2020, which amounts to about US$8 trillion over the entire period for infrastructure development. Across the Asia Pacific region, Governments have announced various plans for new infrastructure spending, creating abundant opportunities for the construction sector in the region.

In Thailand, the industry in 2011 and beyond is set to grow with the support of the Thai Government and investments from abroad.  The Thai Government’s “Stronger Thai” programme, a multi-billion-dollar stimulus plan, has approved infrastructure investments of up to THB200 billion (US$6.5 billion).

Against this backdrop of steady growth, the inaugural BuildTechAsia 2011 Exhibition is set to establish itself as the premier platform in Southeast Asia to showcase new technologies and innovative processes aimed at raising productivity in the construction industry. To be staged from 27 to 29 April at the Singapore Expo, BuildTechAsia 2011 will bring together 8,000 practitioners, technology experts and major industry players for three eventful days of knowledge sharing and business networking.

“The construction industry in Asia is booming. Yet, across the region, the industry is challenged by rising costs and increasingly sophisticated building requirements, making it critical for players to adopt solutions and best practices to raise productivity. The first staging of BuildTechAsia focuses on showcasing the latest constructions innovations and technology solutions aimed at helping builders and project developers reduce costs and shorten the timeline to completion. Our aim is to help the industry raise the bar in productivity standards,” says Chua Wee Phong, Executive Director of Sphere Exhibits, organiser of BuildTechAsia.

Keeping pace with building innovations

BuildTechAsia will present the latest in technologies across varied segments of the building and construction industry – from the latest in construction IT and Building Information Modelling (BIM) concepts to the newest machines, building materials and electrical and mechanical engineering processes.

The presence of international exhibitors will certainly be a draw for both local and regional trade visitors looking to network and gather information on the latest developments in building technologies and best practices. Among these top international names are Vietnam’s Fuvi Mechanical Technology Company, which specialises in formwork technology and France’s Akrobat, which have had experience providing safety and access solutions to worldwide architectural landmarks such as Marina Bay Sands in Singapore and the Dubai Airport in the Middle East.

Shaping the future of building and construction

In line with emerging trends in the construction industry, the Exhibition will also provide unique perspectives on how the implementation of advanced software solutions can raise productivity. Among them, Autodesk, a leader in BIM solutions,  will be showcasing, the AutoCAD Civil 3D software, which helps contractors explore design ideas and analyse what-if scenarios to optimise performance before projects are built.

Answering the call for greener buildings, BuildTechAsia will also feature a range of sustainable products and solutions. Apengergy, an LED lighting producer and Sunzhou Solar, a solar panel developer, will be exhibiting their latest energy-saving products, while builders of smart homes like T & J Electric will showcase their latest solution for developing energy-efficient green homes.

Raising the bar in construction productivity

BuildTechAsia 2011 is held in conjunction with the Construction Productivity Week, organised by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) of Singapore. The Construction Productivity Week will also incorporate the Build Smart Conference, which brings together global experts who will share their experience in the adoption of innovative solutions to improve construction productivity.

Chua elaborates: “With its technological focus, BuildTechAsia will serve as the perfect avenue for construction players in Thailand and around the region to learn more on the latest building innovations and construction processes that will expand the possibilities in development projects today and in the future. We are confident that the BuildTechAsia 2011 Exhibition, together with the concurrent Build Smart Conference, will play a definitive role in the future direction of Southeast Asia’s construction landscape.”
