TUTG,World Tunnel Congress 2012 and alliances held the special seminar on Tunnelling and Underground Space Utilization in Myanmar

Thailand Underground and Tunnelling Group (TUTG) ,the organizer of World Tunnel Congress 2012 by Mr.Zaw Zaw Aye Vice President (the third from left) together with International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA-AITES) by Mr. Olivier Vion Executive Director (the third from left) and Prof. In Mo Lee President (in the middle); in cooperation with Myanmar Engineering Society (MES) and Myanmar Geoscience Society (MGS) organized the first tunneling  seminar in Myanmar on Tunnelling and Underground Space Utilization at Myanmar Engineering Society, Yangon, Myanmar. Over 200 participants from Myanmar attended the seminar. On this occasion, TUTG  also promoted the World Tunnel Congress 2012 to be hosted by Thailand from 18 to 23  May 2012 at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok.

Through a series of recent case histories featuring tunnel constructions and deep excavations, the seminar was designed for local professionals in Myanmar to enhance knowledge on issues related to underground construction. The seminar also addressed effective use of underground space in establishing strategies and actions for the town and country integrated planning and management. The contents highlighted on the utilization of tunnelling and Underground Structures for sustainable development, fundamental principles and technical issues in tunnelling and geotechnical aspects of tunnelling and deep excavation in soft ground. In his discussion with Myanmar Engineers and, at this very first tunneling related technical seminar in Myanmar, Mr. Zaw Zaw Aye emphasized Underground space offers potential solution to a wide range of problems related to demand for infrastructures including transportation, energy, drainage, flood diversion tunnels and underground facilities for buildings and other structures.
