Stephen B. Young Acclaims Sufficiency Economy Philosophy & Ten Virtues of Kingship Pathway to Global Sustainable DevelopmentFor the first time in the world, Prof. Stephen B. Young has gathered and highlighted H.M. the King’s Tenfold Kingship Virtues(Thosapit Rachathamma) as the cornerstone of Sustainable Development (SD) in the newly published book “King by Virtue,” penned by Richard Broderick of St. Paul, Minnesota.Prof. Stephen B. Young

The book to be distributed to guests attending “The 2013 Bangkok Conference: Global Dialogue on Sustainable Development” illustrates how the globally revered Kingship Virtues, if and when nationally implemented, will navigate Thailand out of their current quagmire.

Prof. Young, Global Executive Director of the Caux Round Table (CRT is an international network of experienced business leaders, who work with business and political leaders to design the intellectual strategies. cauxroundtable.org)  a global SD expert and the discoverer of Ban Chiang artifacts in Udon Thani province, said: “Foreigners might have a different and inaccurate perspective of Thailand, particularly during the past six to seven years. Media presentation from a western viewpoint is incongruent with the Thai context and might have created a number of lingering questions concerning atypical events in Thailand.”

“My lengthy study of Thai society makes me aware that Thais are truly blessed to have such a hardworking monarch in H.M. King Bhumibol, who is wholly dedicated to his subjects and has immensely diminished Thai social gaps through his vigorous commitment to national development. His Majesty is a unique role model of leadership for the world to study and emulate His SD philosophy. Most importantly a number of Westerners do not understand thoroughly that a successful leader must reach within the essence of leadership intelligence to accomplish their goals. Thailand is really fortunate to come under the reign of a monarch who steadfastly adheres to the Kingship Virtues,” he reiterated.

Prof. Young continued: “In 1966 I was in Udon Thani to explore Ban Chiang archaeological site and witnessed the prevalence of rural poverty. Modern technological advancement has caused dramatic changes in all aspects of Thai society. However without ethical leaders, consumerism will not generate SD. I realize from my study that H.M. the King’s Sufficiency Economy Philosophy and Kingship Virtues have fortified Thai society.”

“Thais must be proud of the fact that Sufficiency Economy Philosophy and the Kingship Virtues have knitted closely to achieve their developmental goals, contentment and transparency for an eventual SD,” Young asserted.

Young will distribute the newly published “King by Virtue” to every guest attending “The 2013 Bangkok Conference: Global Dialogue on SD” on Thursday, October 10, at Centara Grand @ CentralWorld Bangkok Hotel. “Conducted and authored by Richard Broderick of Minnesota, the interviews attested to how the Kingship Virtues have struck a stable social balance of SD on the cornerstone of moral and ethics. The first time ever in the world through a rare publication,

the values of Sufficiency Economy Philosophy and the Kingship Virtues are propagated at this conference for widespread implementation.  The adherence will enable Thailand to have a clean slate to start with absent corruption,” concluded Young.

Dr. Priyanut Dharmapiya, Eminent Person on Sufficiency Economy and a member of the global conference organizing committee, said: “Prof. Young has put the Kingship Virtues to the test at the rural grass-roots level at Dong Sing in Roi Et and Sam Roi Yot in Prachuab Kirikhan to affirm the values with local residents’ participation and promote governance and self management. It has proven beyond doubt that these values are the key to strengthening communities and lessening corruption and misconduct by government officials.”

“At this Conference Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University is to showcase their research findings on purpose-built indicators for Sufficiency Economy Philosophy-complied business operations and the comparative studies in the financial performance of SET-listed companies highly aligned with Sufficiency Economy Philosophy and their counterparts out of similar alignment,” explained Dr. Priyanut.

“It’s a rare privilege for us to have an SD expert on moral capitalism and international business ethics like Prof. Young to add his voice to this global conference. He is an authority with exceptional good understanding of Thailand to share his valuable insights and sparkplug Thais’ SD interests to implement their SD practices,” added Dr. Priyanut.

To inspire all aspects of Thai society to prioritize SD on the basis of social ethics, the Caux Round Table (CRT), an international organization advocating sustainable development (SD) & moral capitalism, The Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC), and Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) will co-host the first ever global SD conference in Thailand and ASEAN, “The 2013 Bangkok Conference: Global Dialogue on Sustainable Development” on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at the Convention Hall of Centara Grand @ CentralWorld Bangkok Hotel.

More than 1,000 delegates from around the world comprising CEOs, entrepreneurs, scholars, government officials, and the press media, will network to produce ideas on implementing Sufficiency Economy Philosophy and the Kingship Virtues for measurable global SD practice.
