BANGKOK – Thailand has been ranked as eBay’s fourth-biggest export market in Asia – demonstrating the Kingdom’s growing role in global trade and ecommerce growth, according to eBay’s first-ever Asian Exporters’ Index report released today.

The report shows that large Thai exporters[1] on eBay grew by 17%, year-on-year, with the jewelry, gems and watches category topping the list of exported products, followed by clothing and accessories, books, auto-parts and sporting goods. The growth in eBay’s Thai export market corresponds with an overall increase in the country’s overall exports of 28.1% in 2010, according to Ministry of Commerce[2]. Thailand represents a significant and growing market for eBay in Asia as the nation experiences strong export growth.

Mr Jason Lee, Head of eBay Southeast Asia and Middle East , said “Thailand’s exporters are riding high alongside their peers throughout Asia and have played an important role in driving eBay’s Asian exporter growth.”

Mr Jason said that increasing numbers of Thai exporters and manufacturers are partnering with eBay to build global businesses. “eBay enables savvy entrepreneurs  to market directly to consumers around the globe. With prospects for Thailand’s economic and export growth remaining strong, eBay remains confident that Thai exporters will continue to utilize ecommerce as a means of boosting sales, and support Thailand’s export-led growth,” he said.

eBay’s global marketplace provides an ideal store front for Thai exporters seeking to attract customers among the 97 million active eBay users around the world.  The Asian Exporters’ Index demonstrates the important role eBay plays in the development of ecommerce in Thailand and throughout Asia, providing a source of job and wealth creation.
