BANGKOK–today announced the appointment of Darren Buckley as Citi Country Officer (CCO) and Head of its Institutional Business at its Thai franchise. Mr. Buckley will report to Michael Zink, Citi’s ASEAN Head based inSingapore.
“Darren brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this role and we are pleased that he will be returning toThailandto drive the growth of our institutional and consumer businesses in the country,” said Stephen Bird, Citi’s Asia CEO.
Mr. Buckley joined Citi inLondonin 1992 where he initially served inCentral Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa. After a four year assignment inNew York, Darren moved to Asia in 1999, first in regional leadership roles based inSingapore, then as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) inThailandbefore moving toJapanin 2004. Darren has held a variety of roles inJapan, including Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer of Citi’s consumer finance business, Director of Citi Cards, and most recently, Citi Japan Country Head, President and CEO of Citibank Japan Ltd., President and CEO of Citigroup Japan Holdings Corp. and Director of Citigroup Global Markets Japan Inc.
Mr. Buckley graduated in 1987 from theUniversityofEast Angliain theUnited Kingdomwith a Bachelor of Science in Business Finance and Economics. He is also a qualified UK Chartered Accountant. In 2008, he was appointed as honorary Professor of China’sDalianUniversityof Foreign Languages and ofHarbinUniversity.
